“My life is a mission to change the way people recover from addiction; potential for change is limited only by the limitations we place on ourselves.”

• Substance use disorder, addiction in plain language, is widely misunderstood and not acknowledged as a problem in society, yet 48.7 million people meet the criteria for SUD.

• Treatment for substance use disorder is frozen in amber. It has barely changed in 60 years.

• Recovery, viewed as impossible by many, suffers from bad public relations. It is widely perceived as a lifetime of daily meetings, the strict supervision of a harsh taskmaster or sponsor, and constant fear of failure.

I'm Keith Keller. I'm a registered nurse of 30 years working in the field of substance use disorder treatment. My training in alternative and complementary modalities gives me holistic perspective; my studies of science-based transformation techniques provide insight into the process of change. I'm a person in long-term recovery from substance use, 35 years. I've spent the last decade and a half in the addiction trenches, and my life is a mission to help those who live as I once did.

I've written a new book about substance use, and how we can fix the problems with treatment and recovery. The Warm Hug is for anyone seeking better understanding of this problem because this affects everyone. People from all walks of life are living with addiction and we are all responsible.
We can solve this! Who’s with me?
